Belgian Jigsaw M90 Field Jacket
The Belgian M90 field jacket in Jigsaw camouflage is a late Cold War era combat garment issued to the Belgian Armed Forces. Introduced around 1990, it was part of the transition to Belgium’s distinctive “Jigsaw” pattern, which had been gradually adopted before becoming standard issue.
Constructed from a durable cotton or poly-cotton blend, the jacket is built for hard use in the field while remaining relatively comfortable and breathable. It features a practical design with a full zip front combined with a storm flap, along with multiple pockets including chest, lower, and shoulder pockets for accessible storage.
The layout emphasizes functionality, with reinforced elbows for durability, adjustable cuffs, and drawstrings at the waist and hem to improve fit and weather protection. Ventilation features and a shorter, field-friendly cut make it suitable for use with load bearing equipment.
The Jigsaw camouflage itself is made up of angular, high-contrast shapes in greens, reds, and yellow tones, designed to perform in temperate European environments. It became one of the most recognizable camouflage patterns of the period and remained in service for decades.
