The F2 jacket is a standard French military field garment introduced in the 1960s and widely issued to the French Armyas part of the F2 uniform system. It was designed as a practical, lightweight alternative to heavier outerwear, suitable for both everyday duties and field use.
Constructed from cotton or poly cotton blends, the jacket is built for durability while remaining breathable and comfortable in a range of conditions. Its design is simple and functional, typically featuring a concealed button front with a storm flap, elasticated waist for a closer fit, and adjustable cuffs.
A defining feature of the F2 jacket is its layout, including vertical zippered chest pockets for secure storage, shoulder epaulettes for rank, and hook and loop areas for patches and identification. The shorter cut of the jacket, often ending around the waist, was intended to work well with belts and load carrying equipment.
Originally issued in plain olive drab, the F2 was later produced in camouflage patterns such as CCE, reflecting evolving operational needs. It remained in widespread use from the late Cold War into the 21st century, becoming a recognizable part of modern French military kit.
