M65 Field Jacket

The M65 field jacket is one of the most iconic pieces of modern military outerwear, introduced by the United States Army in 1965 as an evolution of earlier field jackets. Designed for versatility in a wide range of climates, it quickly became a standard issue item and remained in service for decades.

Built with practicality in mind, the M65 features a durable outer shell, a concealed hood stored in the collar, and a button in liner system that allows for added insulation in colder conditions. Its multiple front pockets, adjustable cuffs, and drawstring waist and hem made it highly functional for soldiers operating in the field, offering both protection from the elements and ease of use.

The jacket saw extensive use during the Vietnam War, where it became closely associated with U.S. troops. Over time, it was produced in a variety of camouflage patterns and solid colors to suit different environments, from temperate woodland to desert conditions. Small changes in materials, stitching, and manufacturing details led to numerous variations, reflecting different production periods and evolving military needs.

Its long service life and adaptable design allowed the M65 to remain relevant well beyond its original era, continuing to be used into the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
