The PASGT helmet short for “Personnel Armor System for Ground Troops marked a major step forward in modern combat protection when it was introduced by the U.S. military in the early 1980s. Moving away from steel, this helmet was made from layers of Kevlar, offering significantly improved ballistic protection while remaining relatively lightweight. Its distinctive shape, often nicknamed the “Fritz helmet” due to its resemblance to German designs from World War II, also provided better coverage around the sides and back of the head compared to its predecessor, the M1.
