The PLCE system, short for Personal Load Carrying Equipment, is a modular load bearing system developed for the British Army and introduced in the late 1980s as a replacement for the earlier 58 Pattern webbing. Designed to improve comfort, durability, and load distribution, it became a standard part of British infantry equipment through the late Cold War and into modern operations.

Constructed primarily from tough nylon materials, PLCE was built to withstand harsh conditions while reducing weight compared to older canvas systems. The setup is centered around a padded belt and shoulder yoke, allowing pouches and equipment to be evenly distributed across the body. Its modular design enables the user to configure the layout depending on role and mission requirements, typically including ammunition pouches, utility pouches, and a rear mounted pack.

A key feature of the PLCE system is its integration with other gear, allowing it to be worn comfortably alongside body armor and additional equipment. The system was produced in various camouflage patterns and configurations to suit different environments, reflecting its adaptability across a wide range of operational settings.

PLCE saw extensive use in conflicts such as the Falklands War in its early development stages and later in operations including the War in Afghanistan. Its reliability and practical design made it a long serving and widely recognized part of British military kit.
