Soviet Ushanka

The Soviet ushanka is a classic piece of cold weather headgear issued to forces of the Soviet Union, designed to provide warmth in harsh winter conditions. Widely used throughout the 20th century, it became a defining part of Soviet military winter uniforms.

Constructed from wool or synthetic materials with a fur lined interior, the ushanka features ear flaps that can be worn tied up on top of the hat or lowered to protect the ears, neck, and sides of the face from extreme cold. This practical design made it highly effective in freezing environments.

Typically finished in a muted color such as brown or olive, the front of the hat often displays a metal insignia representing military or state affiliation. Its simple yet functional construction prioritizes insulation and comfort during extended wear in cold climates.
