Italian Army Combat Uniform Vegetata Camouflage

The Italian Vegetato ACU is a modern combat uniform system introduced in the early 2000s and issued to the Italian Army. It marked a shift toward updated camouflage and contemporary combat design, replacing earlier Cold War era uniforms.

At the core of the uniform is the Vegetato pattern, a four color camouflage made up of jagged, mottled shapes in red, brown, tan and khaki. Designed for Mediterranean environments, it performs well in dry grassland, scrub, and mixed woodland terrain, while still remaining effective across a variety of conditions.

The uniform itself follows a modern ACU style layout, built from durable ripstop or poly cotton materials for strength and breathability. It features a practical design with multiple pockets, reinforced areas, and adjustable elements to improve comfort and functionality in the field.

Adopted around 2004, the Vegetato uniform became the standard across Italian armed forces and has seen use in both domestic training and overseas deployments.
